スーパーモデルが3Dプリンタ製の衣装をまといファッショ

　GEアディティブは2019年5月6日（米現地時間）、デザイナーのZac Posen氏、Protolabsと共同で、3Dプリンタで作製した衣装のファッションショーをメトロポリタン美術館のMet Galaで開催したと発表した。Posen氏と同氏のクリエイティブチーム、両社のデザインエンジニアおよび3Dプリンタ技術の専門家が協業し、6カ月にわたり3Dプリントとデジタル技術の可能性を探求してきた成果だ。　ショーのコンセプトは「動いている自然の物体を凍らせる」で、動的で自然な姿、かつ革新的で彫刻的なドレスやアクセサリーなどのコラボレーション作品を発表。Posen氏の構想を、GEアディティブはエンジニアリングの側面から設計し、Protolabsは3Dプリンタを使って製作した。
　ファッションショーでは、スーパーモデルらが、4つのイブニングドレスと頭飾りを着用して披露した。作品の1つであるローズガウンは、耐久性のあるプラスチック「Accura Xtreme White200」で作られ、ステレオリソグラフィー装置で製作された21枚の花びらが付いている。花びらを固定するケージはチタン製で、GEアディティブの電子ビーム金属積層造形3Dプリンタ「アーカム製EBMプリンタ」により3Dプリントされている。
　今回のコラボレーションは、「洗練されたグラマラスなスタイルに、最先端の技術と革新を取り入れる」というPosen氏の思いを追求したもので、ファッションと3Dプリンタのコラボレーションの可能性に挑戦した。GEアディティブは、機械設計と工業設計、CADモデリングなどの知見を提供し、Protolabsは、幅広い製造プロセス、材料、産業にわたって豊富な業界の専門知識を提供した。
